One of the best courses in Sussex for Junior Golfers.

This is one of the stronger junior setups in Sussex. The black tees cut the length to about 2,700 yards, which means younger players can get around without feeling overwhelmed but still learn how to play proper holes. They’re WHS-rated too, so juniors can post real scores.

The academy par-3 course and floodlit range, fully fitted with Trackman technology, add to the appeal. It’s ideal for practice, coaching, or quick evening rounds. The layout and facilities make it a fantastic family club.

Tip: Mixing nine holes from the black tees and nine from the red tees works well for juniors building confidence.

Course Character

The course winds through trees and gentle slopes, with a few water hazards that encourage players to pay attention. From the clubhouse terrace, watch players tackle the 10th “Balcony Hole” — the shot over the water — and see others complete their rounds onto the green of the 18th below. These two holes give both spectators and players a buzz, especially on busy weekends.

Holes That Stand Out

🕊️ 7th – Par 3

A short but testing par 3 that looks easier than it plays. For juniors, teeing up with a driver, fairway or long iron from the elevated tee, taking into account the wind can be hard to judge. Two front flanking bunkers are ready to catch those that may miss-hit the line. Miss short or long and you’re scrambling for par!

🌊 10th – The Balcony Hole

Probably the most talked-about hole at Slinfold. The tee shot over the lake is intimidating, whether a junior or seasoned player — especially with people watching from the clubhouse. If you hit a solid shot, the fairway opens up for a second shot towards the green. Miss it, and you’re reloading.

⛳ 18th – A Good Finish

A solid closing hole that brings you back directly towards the clubhouse. Tee off with a driver to layout for a narrow second shot at the green, with the clubhouse only yards behind. It’s fair but demands a steady approach — a newly scaped bunker guards the front left of the green, with the right side veering towards the lake that wraps the 10th tee. The final green is enough to keep you thinking. It’s a satisfying way to finish a round.

Playing the Course

🟨 Yellow Tees

From the yellows, Slinfold plays just over 5,500 yards and rewards good course management — positioning is more important than distance. Mid-handicappers will enjoy it because it requires players to think, whilst single-figure players can still find plenty to test them around the greens.

🔴 Red Tees

The red tees shorten the course nicely. It’s an easy walk and a good choice for beginners or anyone who prefers shorter carries. You still get the same layout, just a less demanding version of it.

Course Condition & Year-Round Play

The greens generally roll well, especially in summer when they’re faster and truer. They can be on the slower side after wet spells, which is typical for parkland courses in this part of Sussex. Fairways are generous, the rough isn’t too severe, and you can usually find your ball if you drift off line.

How It Compares to Other Sussex Courses

  • Fairer off the tee than most local parkland courses.
  • Doglegs and water features keep players honest.
  • The 10th and 18th give it a nice social feel from the clubhouse view.
  • Probably the best junior setup in the area thanks to the black tees and academy course.

Player Feedback & Ratings

The feedback is consistent: friendly staff, good value, and an enjoyable layout that suits most standards of golfer.
